As the Leipzig police reported on Twitter, the emergency services had to end a meeting with around 200 participants in the Engelsdorf district around 7 p.m. A meeting with around 25 participants was also prevented at the Nikolaikirchhof in the city center because it was not registered. These are said to have been demonstrators from the “Leipzig Movement”. The police recorded the identities of the participants.

According to initial projections, around 300 participants in the “Leipzig takes place” demos were there. From Augustusplatz, the demonstrators moved through the city and occasionally encountered small groups of the “Leipzig Movement” and “Leipzig 2021 Citizens’ Movement”.

As a police spokesman later confirmed to the German Press Agency, the demonstrations on Monday evening were generally peaceful. A small group of opponents of the measures was on site at Augustusplatz and there were “small emotions” with the participants of the “Leipzig takes place” meetings.

Monday evening was also a success for the action alliance. “Thank you to all initiatives, groups, parties and Co. for the diverse participation in the protest,” wrote “Leipzig takes place” on Twitter at the end.
