Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports recorded increases in passengers in the first eight months of this year. However, the two airports are still a long way from the level in the pre-Corona year 2019.
As Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG announced on Wednesday, Leipzig/Halle Airport had around 1.35 million passengers from January to August. That was 41 percent more than in the same period last year.
In 2019, according to statistics from the airport association ADV, more than 1.7 million passengers used Leipzig/Halle Airport in the first eight months. That’s a decrease of around 22 percent.
At Dresden Airport, the pre-crisis level is even further away. From January to August, almost 599,000 passengers were counted in the Saxon state capital. That was 13 percent more than in 2022, but 42 percent less than in 2019. At that time, more than a million people flew to and from Dresden.
According to the airport operating company, the range of tourist destinations is growing at both airports. In Dresden, two airlines will start new connections to Turkey in September. From Leipzig/Halle it will soon be possible to reach Abu Dhabi and Dubai twice a week.
