Mönchengladbach. Ironically, a goal by Hannes Wolf in the 60th minute cost RB Leipzig the league lead in the Bundesliga. The RB professional, loaned to Borussia Mönchengladbach, scored the 1-0 win on Saturday evening for the hosts, who won against Leipzig for the first time. Four days before the game against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, RB pressed the equalizer in the closing stages, but remained without points for the first time this season.
The Leipziger are now behind the new front runners FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in third place in the table. FC Bayern remains on course even without Robert Lewandowski. Coach Hansi Flick spared the goal guarantee in the game at 1. FC Köln, but the German record champions won just 2-1 and took the lead. Borussia Dortmund is now second after a 2-0 win at Arminia Bielefeld. Defense chief Mats Hummels scored twice, but then had to go out injured.

Gulasci new RB record holder
After the hefty 5-0 defeat at Manchester United, rotation and compactness on the defensive were the top priority for coach Julian Nagelsmann, who switched to a back four with Willi Orban and made three more changes. “Sure, you don’t just take a 5-0 draw,” said the coach before the game. Captain Marcel Sabitzer was in the starting line-up for the first time this season. Newcomer Alexander Sörloth moved into the starting line-up for the second time and immediately fitted in with a good template for Yussuf Poulsen, who forced Yann Sommer to make the first save in the 10th minute.
Due to the many changes, the rhythm was lacking, overall both teams neutralized each other and hardly ever saw any dangerous scenes. The best Gladbach opportunity arose after a mistake by Dayot Upamecano for Pléa, who did not complete consistently and failed to RB goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi. The goalkeeper was in the guests’ goal for the 137th time, making him the new Bundesliga record player for Leipzig.
The decision was made after an hour, when Wolf scored his first Bundesliga goal against his ex-club. His right-footed shot into the right corner after a presentation by Patrick Herrmann was unstoppable. Seven minutes later, Pléa could have increased it to 2-0, but the French only hit the crossbar.
