Leidi Germán Foundation guides athletes about breast cancer – El Nuevo Diario (Dominican Republic)

EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO. – With the aim of promoting awareness, the Leidi Germán Foundation held a breast cancer prevention talk in the activities room of the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedojudo), of the Olympic Center.

The orientation meeting was aimed at athletes from combat sports federations such as judo, karate, taekwondo, wushu, boxing, fencing and wrestling, according to a statement.

The topic of breast cancer prevention was debated by Dr. Érica Grullón, a specialist in gynecology, who gave the presentation interactively with the athletes.

For her part, Leidi Germán, president of the foundation that bears her name, stated that the interest of the organization she directs is to educate, on this occasion, about breast cancer, a disease that hits women mercilessly and without distinction.

The former high-performance athlete in the sport of judo indicated that the talk took place to commemorate the International Day for the fight against breast cancer.

Germán said that the busy activity had the support of the Seaboard company, Clean Energy, as well as the Dominican Federation of Sports Medicine and the Dominican Judo Federation.

With the talk, the Leidi Germán Foundation seeks to encourage and promote the academic preparation of young people who also take sport as a way of life.

Also present at the meeting were Gilberto García and Luisa Martínez, president and general secretary, respectively, of Fedojudo, Teresa Durán, immortal of Dominican Sports, and Maritza Ortiz, who has participated in 8 Olympic Games as a referee.
