The Leidse Sterrewacht (WLS) working group, the Leiden Observatory, Kaiser and Camras from Dwingeloo will provide a live broadcast of the solar eclipse in the northern hemisphere on Thursday 10 June. In the Netherlands it is a partial solar eclipse, but in Canada you may even see the ‘ring of fire’ when the moon almost completely blocks the sun. The YouTube broadcast starts at 11 a.m.
In Canada, three people are present to record the complete solar eclipse that takes place around 11:45 AM Dutch time. In addition to the eclipse itself, presentations and videos are shown and stories related to the sun are told. The broadcast lasts until 12.30 pm.
The solar eclipse on June 10 is the first solar eclipse since March 2015 that is visible from the Netherlands. The moon slowly slides between the Earth and the sun from 11:18 a.m. In the Netherlands, the moon can be seen covering the northern edge of the sun. The maximum takes place at 12:22 PM. Then 29 percent of the sun’s centerline is covered by the moon. The solar eclipse will be over at 1:31 PM.
