The Leiden company Janssen Biologics is calling for relaxation of rules regarding the development and testing of new vaccines, De Telegraaf reports today. Janssen, a subsidiary of the American pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson, is in the race to develop a vaccine against the corona virus, but initially ran into strict environmental regulations that apply to such drugs.

Because the rules in the Netherlands are stricter than elsewhere, the company initially moved to Belgium and the United States to test the vaccine. In those countries the rules are applied more flexibly.

From this week, Janssen Biologics will also take the vaccine tests in the Netherlands. The Dutch government made an exception for the candidate vaccine. The company hopes that the rules for other vaccines will also be relaxed in the future.
