There was a small packaging error with the 75345 501st Clone Troopers Battle Pack: all info and the press release.
Earlier this month appeared with the 75345 501st Clone Troopers Battle Pack supplies for the in-house clone army again (my review here). The set is extremely popular and currently even in the LEGO Online Shop sold out. A minor controversy, particularly in English-speaking countries, was the erroneous position of the 501st Officer’s rangefinder on the box. Now LEGO has reported the incident and sent out a press release over the LAN.
Rangefinder on the box too low
Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, Creative Lead of LEGO Star Wars, addresses the incident in a statement. He explains that the development of new sets is a collaboration between different teams (Editor’s note: Frederiksen seems to be alluding to a communication error between the design team and the packaging team). The minifigure in the box rendering does not represent the real minifigure because the rangefinder on the box is too low on the helmet. Unfortunately, the press release does not say whether a new, corrected packaging will be used in the future. Should we receive information about this, we will of course announce it immediately in the blog.
Original Statement
For those who are interested, here is Frederiksen’s original wording again.
Creating new sets involves a number of different teams working
together in parallel, and unfortunately in this case the printed box art
for 75345 features a computer render of a Phase 2 Clone Trooper helmet
that doesn’t reflect the final finished physical element and
positioning of the range finder on the figure. In the final design of the physical helmet element, the visor dictates
where holes for extra attachments need to be placed for them to sit.
This is slightly higher than the position where the range finder is on
the render found on the 75345 box.
