LEGO Star Wars 75270 Obi-Wan’s Hut in Review: Need Blue Milk?

The LEGO set Star Wars 75270 Obi-Wan’s hut in review: is the bungalow convincing?

Note: I wrote this review before my review of the LEGO Star Wars 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina. Here we go! +++ Tatooine is the first planet that cinema viewers saw in the first Star Wars film in 1977. Numerous sets have already appeared, including dozens of land speeders. As the rumors of another Tatooine set are growing this year, I would like to introduce you to a couple of Tatooine sets here on this site in the near future. The beginning is Obi-Wan’s hut from Episode IV!

My attitude

I’m a big Star Wars fan and have been collecting the corresponding sets since 2008. As a result, I have already built many models, but never Obi-Wan’s cabin. The reason for this is that this is a new edition! As soon as the set was introduced, I knew that I would buy it as Tatooine is my favorite planet. Apart from the films and series, I still read the Star Wars comics, from which the hut contains many allusions, but more on that later …

Scope and assembly

Those Minifigures!

An important point in any set are definitely the minifigures! There are four of them in this kit. The eponymous Obi-Wan appears with his lightsaber and his classic Jedi or desert clothing. In this combination, the figure is still exclusive to this set (even if none of the parts are new)! Luke Skywalker comes along with a macro binocular. He wears his desert clothing and has appeared in this form in many sets. R2-D2 is also included. It is by no means a rarity. After all, it appears in almost every wave of sets. A Tusken robber joins as an opponent. As a weapon he has a Gaderffii, which is put together from four elements. The figure appeared new in January 2020, but also came out in a microfighter at the same time.

The construction stages

The assembly takes about half an hour and thanks to the easy instructions it can be mastered at a young age. It is divided into two sections and takes place in 70 construction steps on 61 pages.

The pile of parts

The 200 parts are mostly in beige and gray tones. A highlight for me is the large, beige dome. After all, you need it for almost every house on the desert planet and is now finally included in an inexpensive set.

Special elements

To my great pleasure, no stickers are included. Two parts are printed in total: an electronic door lock and a training droid. Another special part is the hologram of Princess Leia, which has received a new cast and is exclusive.

Construction phase 1

In the first phase of construction we are pulling up about half of the house. We’ll build a small kitchenette and a couple of seats with tables.

Construction phase 2

In the second and last construction phase, we are building the other half, which can be opened using joints. Inside we build a few more details and finally the dome is put on. The construction wasn’t particularly complicated, but thanks to the many Easter Eggs it was a lot of fun!

Features and Easter Eggs

Folding mechanism

The main function of the set is the folding mechanism. Thanks to it, the interior can be played on well and all important figures find their place. Two quarters of the house are opened up.

Entrance area

There is a box next to the entrance! Against all expectations, however, this is not full. But you could stow Luke’s macro binoculars there. There is also an electronic door lock on the wall. I don’t understand its usefulness as there is no door. This is also a small point of criticism, because even a brave Jedi master needs his privacy. The box that is right in the door also bothers me a little. The house looks way too full right at the entrance. Inside the box is Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber and a training droid. We’ll let it float later. Next to the box hangs a fighting staff for close combat.

What is hidden in the box?

Delicious blue milk!

In the interior we find a chair and table in front of the kitchenette. On the table is a transparent cup and a blue structure that is reminiscent of a milk carton. This is an allusion to the blue milk that Beru Lars pours in a deleted scene. The strange drink can also be found in the opening scene of Rogue One and has now enjoyed cult status among fans.

Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi!

Princess Leia’s call for help can be watched in another seating niche. There is also space for R2-D2, since it plays the hologram. In the background we see a second Gaderffii. Obi-Wan uses this in battles with Tusken robbers in the comics. He deliberately uses his lightsaber very rarely on Tatooine because he wants to stay physically fit. A proper fight replaces the morning workout.

Regal

Even a Jedi needs storage space. On one shelf is a droid leg and some kind of goggles (if I get it right). We need the white stud and the transparent stick for the training droid.

Obi-Wans Workout und Lukes Training

From the “head” of the training droid, as well as the stud and the transparent rod, a floating training droid can be built, which Luke can fight directly.

Kitchenette with space for more?

At the back, a kitchenette protrudes from the model. It contains a stove and a saucepan with green soup. This appears in the comics and Obi-Wan tells Qui-Gon that the food in the Jedi Temple was much better. The clips seem a bit irritating. Because there is nothing that you would hang in this place. Maybe this is a connection with a future set …

Conclusion: 75270 Obi-Wan’s hut

With the Landspeeder in action!

In summary, Obi-Wan’s hut is a nice set, but it has a few flaws. Overall, the set is too airy for me. The door in particular is extremely missing here, although it has been nicely implemented in previous cantinas. So why not here? The open kitchen area bothers me a bit. However, if you can combine the house with another set there at some point, I’m happy with it. That would be out of the canon, but still a nice gimmick! The characters are nicely chosen, even if I would have found a selection of characters from the corresponding comics (younger Obi-Wan, Owen Lars, young Luke, Tusken robber) more beautiful. But these would probably be too unknown, so I fully understand and accept the choice of figures! I also find the price too high. But with discounts you can take the set for less than 25 euros with you without hesitation.

Your opinion!
