Lego increases prices: When is Germany’s turn?

Many Lego sets could soon become more expensive in Germany. The photo from March 18, 2020 shows a shop of the Danish toy manufacturer in downtown Frankfurt that was closed due to Corona.

Popular sets from the Danish toy manufacturer Lego could soon become significantly more expensive in Germany. Prices have already been raised sharply in the USA, Canada and Australia.

Now it’s time for the building blocks! In all sectors, customers must currently expect price increases. In the near future, the products from the Danish toy manufacturer Lego, which are particularly popular with children, could become significantly more expensive.

Prices have already been raised in the USA, Canada and Australia. So far, this has not been the case in the German Lego online shop or in other European countries, but this is set to change next September.

Lego: price increase in Germany from September 2022?

The online portal reportsStonewars.de“. The website shows which sets have recently become more expensive in the US, Canada and Australia. While the price increase in the USA was between around 5 and 25 percent, a price increase of up to almost 29 percent was implemented in Australia, and Canada even recorded a price increase of up to 32 percent.

Lego had already confirmed planned price increases in a public statement on June 2, 2022. The company spoke of “price increases in August and September”. Later in June, Lego became more concrete. Accordingly, the prices “depending on the country for 150 to 190 products” should be changed. But: “Approximately 75 percent of the range” should not be affected by price increases.

Larger, more complex sets for adults in particular should become more expensive. At the beginning of August, however, prices had only been raised in Australia, the USA and Canada. Germany and other European countries have not been affected so far.

The currently most likely date for the price change in Germany is September 1, 2022.

Lego: 133 sets in the USA now more expensive

At best, customers should use August to shop at Lego before prices explode here too.

The portal “Stonewars.de‘ recorded the old Lego prices in the USA before the changeover and is now demonstrating in a table how much they were raised. This can serve as an indication of the coming price increases in Germany.

A total of 133 Lego sets have become more expensive in the USA, including, for example, from the “Creator Expert”, “City”, “Technology” or “Disney” series. At “Stonewars.de” you will see a detailed listing of all sets and the respective price increases.

The only thing the portal didn’t take into account were items from Lego’s education range.

US, Canada, Australia: Lego price hike overlaps

Of the 105 sets that are said to be more expensive in Germany, 67 have already become more expensive in the USA, i.e. around 64 percent. Of the 118 sets that now cost more in Canada, 87 have also become more expensive in the US, i.e. around 74 percent.

The increased prices in the USA, Canada and Australia make it clear that although different sets are affected by the price increases, there are also numerous overlaps. As a result, it can be assumed that many of the articles concerned will also become more expensive in Germany. (jba)
