The Chamber of Commerce has been pointing out abuses in child care in Carinthia for years, and now the responsible SPÖ is finally waking up.
Klagenfurt (OTS) – Interestingly, the SPÖ’s interest is unfortunately currently limited to press releases, because the invitation to discussions about ways to improve company childcare, which has long been extended by business, has so far remained unanswered. Legner: “As for the ladies and gentlemen who are now desperately trying to blame the Chamber of Commerce for the lack of operational facilities, I stick to a lesson from special education: I love them the most when they deserve it the least.”
The Chamber of Commerce and she herself have been pointing out the grievances in Carinthian child care for years, from constructive to critical, Legner emphasized: “Unfortunately, our diverse initiatives at various levels have not been addressed. I am all the more pleased that this important issue has now apparently reached the party primarily responsible for it – even if they apparently do not want to admit that they themselves are responsible for the unsatisfactory situation, which is reflected not least in the trend towards part-time work. “
The Chamber of Commerce and women in business clearly pointed out the unfortunate situation in Carinthia at a large-scale panel discussion in the WKK in September last year in the presence of SPÖ politician Gaby Schaunig. Legner said at the time: “The compatibility of family and work has developed into a key social issue that can no longer be ignored. A lot has already happened, but we are still far from where we want to be.” Current figures are sometimes shocking, especially when it comes to childcare: “If we want to reduce poverty in old age and get more women interested in full-time jobs, there must be the appropriate full-time and “Provide suitable childcare options in terms of opening times,” demands Legner. Politicians must listen even more closely to the concerns of women entrepreneurs in order to secure Carinthia as a business location and thus prosperity in the state in the long term.”

Because of the insufficient availability of public childcare, especially during off-day and holiday times, the Chamber of Commerce/Women in Business even launched the “Summer Childcare” initiative to help parents with the challenge of balancing family and work, especially during the summer holidays to get, to support. For years, suitable, financially affordable and high-quality childcare options have been available online on this platform. Especially in summer, the gap in care often cannot be closed with vacation, relatives and friends – not to mention the remaining quality of family togetherness.
Legner: “The SPÖ’s dishonest attempt to pillory the economy for the politicians’ own weaknesses in childcare is self-directed. Without legal changes, there will continue to be no childcare offers at company level. But we are of course happy to take up the SPÖ’s surprisingly awakened interest in this central issue and use the resulting movement to make improvements.”
