More fear than harm for the presidential majority in Val-d’Oise. While on the evening of the first round of the legislative elections, the Nupes, a coalition of the left, had come out on top in 9 of the 10 constituencies of the department, 6 candidates Together! will finally join the hemicycle at the end of the second round, which delivered its verdict on Sunday June 19.
The movement led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon achieves a breakthrough and obtains 4 seats in the sectors of large cities such as Argenteuil, Sarcelles or Cergy. In the latter, the LREM defector invested by Nupes Aurélien Taché succeeded in his bet and won by a wide margin with 55% of the votes against Victorien Lachas.
Half of the deputies reappointed
They finally managed to reverse the trend and save their skins at the Bourbon Palace. In the 7th constituency, Dominique Da Silva narrowly wins against Romain Eskenazi. MP Naïma Moutchou also resists Karine Lacouture’s push and keeps her post. Guillaume Vuilletet and Cécile Rilhac are also leaving for a second term.
The novice Estelle Folest, invested by Together! to replace the former Secretary of State for Priority Education Nathalie Elimas – repudiated by the government and the authorities of Renaissance following accusations of harassment – consolidates the anchoring of the presidential party in the 6th constituency of Val-d ‘oise. It will be a first for her too. Emilie Chandler succeeds Antoine Savignat in the Vexin under the colors of Ensemble!
Big cities pass on the left
On the other hand, it is over for François Pupponi, a figure from the east of Val-d’Oise elected deputy since 2007. He was largely defeated by Carlos Martens Bilongo, a native of Villiers-le-Bel and invested by Nupes, who won 61% of the vote. During the between-two rounds, the latter had received the welcome support of the mayors of Sarcelles de Villiers-le-Bel and Garges-lès-Gonesse, all opposed to the reappointment of the former mayor of Sarcelles.
In the Argenteuil-Bezons sector, outgoing MP Fiona Lazaar is also swept away by left-wing candidate Paul Vannier, who garners 63% of the vote. Arnaud Le Gall also arrives in the National Assembly by winning his duel against the sole representative of the National Rally, Jean-Baptiste Marly, in the 9th constituency with 56% of the vote.
