After being approved yesterday by the Senate of the Republic, today the minutes that reform the Amnesty and Amparo laws arrived at the Chamber of Deputies, which were published in the Legislative Gazette.
In the case of the first rule, one of its most relevant aspects is that it gives the President of the Republic the power to grant amnesty to anyone who provides “verifiable and reliable” information on relevant cases for the country, such as those in Ayotzinapa, Tlatlaya, San Fernando and Allende.
The figure of amnesty, furthermore, can be granted by the Executive directly, that is, without requesting the endorsement or opinion of the Attorney General’s Office or a judge.
Regarding the modification in matters of protection, said rule seeks to prevent judges and magistrates from issuing suspensions that stop legal reforms without having gone to the bottom of the matter.
In this way, the judges will not be able to issue suspensions with general effects, but these will only be valid for the person promoting the protection.
On Wednesday, the House approved that the two minutes be sent directly to committees as soon as they were sent by the senators, in order to speed up the legislative process.
