It is not only in the 14th district of the Rhône, that of Vénissieux, that the left is torn apart.
A Villeurbanne, the union of the left embodied by Jean-Luc Mélenchon is also greatly threatened. All for family business.
“It’s a return to the family fold”
Gabriel Amard, regional councilor La France insoumise and son-in-law of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, announced, on April 21, his candidacy for Villeurbanne for the legislative elections. A candidacy that irritates the left, undermining the union desired by the Nupes, the new People’s Ecological and Social Union supposed to unite for the legislative rebellious France, the PS, EELV and the PCF.
A parachuting from which the interested party defends himself. “It’s a return to the family fold, my maternal family has lived here since the 19th century. I live in Villeurbanne, not in Paris”, defended this close friend of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, with BFM TV.
I hear the disappointment of Mayor Villeurbanne, but also of those who realize that, by the result of the 1st round of the presidential election, LFI was right on the diagnosis aimed at reconnecting the people with ecology, altruism and humanism . It was felt at the ballot box.
Turmoil in the Socialist Party
The candidacy of the son-in-law of the former presidential candidate is causing a stir in the PS.
Cristina Martineau, deputy mayor for early childhood and the elderly at the town hall of Villeurbanne, who has already been chosen as a left-wing candidate for the legislative elections, denounces this choice. “Today, the union of the left is choosing nepotism, machismo and parachuting,” she denounced.
She denounces similar actions by the union of the left in other districts of the Rhône, in particular Vénissieux, where the militant journalist LFI Taha Bouhafs is the candidate of the union, even as the communist mayor Michèle Picard.
The PS mayor of Villeurbanne Cédric Van Styvendael, yet favorable to the PS-LFI union, also denounces this candidacy by evoking an “error”.
Cristina Martineau will say this Tuesday, May 10 if she is a dissident candidate for the legislative elections or if she withdraws in favor of the son-in-law of Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
The “parachuting” does not pass to the left
The union of the left does not seem in any case not topical in the 6th district of the Rhône. Katia Buisson is also a candidate for the Radical Left Party (PRG) and the former Europe-Ecology candidate Les Verts denounces the parachuting of Mélenchon’s son-in-law.
“In our constituency, it is a candidate not rooted in our territory who will wear the colors of our Nupes. I regret it, ”denounced Zémorda Khelifi (EELV) in a press release.
The left is therefore divided on this constituency held by LREM and the outgoing deputy Bruno Bonnell who is not standing. The presidential party will be represented by Emmanuelle Haziza, lawyer and former elected LR invested by Horizons the party of Edouard Philippe.
