Legislative 2022. Hours of polling stations, voter card, health instructions… Everything you need to know in the Alpes-Maritimes and the Var

The first round of legislative elections takes place this Sunday, June 12. To vote, a few simple rules to know before moving. We take stock of the Alpes-Maritimes. Attention, in this last department the polling stations close early.

This Sunday, June 12, the voters of the 9 constituencies of the Alpes-Maritimes and the 8 constituencies of the Var are called to vote to elect their deputies.

Hours change sometimes

Please note, in the Var, unlike the presidential election, almost all the polling stations will close at 6 p.m.… except for the municipalities of Toulon, Hyères and La Garde where the polling stations will close at 7 p.m.

  • Number of polling stations in this department: 982

Opening of polling stations: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A derogation from closing at 7 p.m. is granted to the following 5 municipalities:
Biot, Cloth, Le Rouret, Opio, Saint-Paul-de-Vence

A derogation from closing at 8 p.m. is granted to the following 29 municipalities:

  • Antibes, Aspremont, Auribeau-sur-Siagne, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Cannes, le Cannet, Cap-d’Ail, Carros, Chateauneuf-Villevieille, Falicon, Grasse, Mandelieu-la-Napoule, Menton , Mouans-Sartoux, Mougins, Nice, Pégomas, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, La Roquette-sur-Siagne, Saint-André-de-la-Roche, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, la Trinité, Valbonne, Vallauris, Vence, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Villeneuve-Loubet.

7 municipalities equipped with electronic voting machines:

  • Antibes (partially), Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Mougins, Valbonne, Mandelieu-la-Napoule, Vence, Villeneuve-Loubet.

With or without voter card

To vote, you must be of legal age, French, in possession of all your civic and political rights and registered on the electoral list. The only document required is an ID. These include a national identity card (even expired less than 5 years ago), passport, driving license, and even the Carte Vitale or hunting license.

In municipalities with less than 1,000 inhabitants, it’s even simpler: no ID is required. “But in case of doubt, the president of the polling station can ask the voter to prove his identity by any means“, noted the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture on its website.

No more mandatory health protocol

Wearing a mask is strongly recommended for fragile people, symptomatic people, at-risk contact cases and people who have tested positive for Covid-19, up to seven days after their release from isolation.

Access to the polling station can be regulated and entrance and exit must be separated in order to avoid crowded situations. It will also be regularly aired and the voting material will be cleaned frequently.

Masks, hydroalcoholic gel and self-tests will be made available.

Correct outfit required

There is no mandatory dress code to enter a polling station. The tie suit for men is therefore not compulsory but there are three prohibitions: the clothes must notcarry a message of a political nature, they must respect good morals and not obstruct the control of the voter’s identity.
