“During the first sample, we already took measures to limit the emission of aerosols. When you hear the word legionella and learn that people are sick and even died, that are reasons enough for us to take this seriously,” says Peter Vandeputte, spokesperson for Albertstroom, on RTV. “We have worked well together (with the Agency for Care and Health, ed.) to eliminate possible sources very quickly. At the moment we assume that they are under control.”
The shutdown of possible sources happened between December 3 and 18. Legionella has an incubation period of 19 days. So people may still get sick. The Herentals hospital, general practitioners and other healthcare providers have therefore been informed to be alert for the symptoms of an infection.
