On May 16, the legendary New Orleans heavy music group “Eyehategod” will perform for the first time in Latvia in the “Tu jau zini kur” concert hall on Tallinn Street.
Eyehategod’s beginnings can be traced back to April 1988 (under the influence of the so-called “4/20” culture), when it was formed by guitarist Jimmy Bower and drummer Joey LaCaze. If the first of them is still in the line-up, Lakeiz unfortunately died in August 2013 – diagnosis: respiratory failure… Almost, almost from the very beginning, vocalist Mike Williams, bass guitarist Gary Mader has been in the band since 2002. , while drummer Aaron Hill replaced Lakeiz after his death in 2013.
“Eyehategod” is one of the best-known representatives of the New Orleans metal music scene, to which you can also add “Down”, “Crowbar”, “Soilent Green”, “Acid Bath” and others who have been in Latvia.
True, “Eyehategod” calls such blitzes as “Melvins”, “Carnivore”, “Discharge”, “Corrosion Of Conformity”, also “Celtic Frost”, “Saint Vitus” and even “Black Sabbath” as its sources of influence, and although which of all these bands can be felt in the sound of these New Orleanians today. “Eyehategod” could be classified as “sludge metal” – slow, distorted guitars and strong, aggressive, rough vocals,” the concert organizers announce them, and it’s true.
The group’s discography includes six official studio albums, the last of which dates back to 2021 – “A History Of Nomadic Behavior”.
