Legendary Manchester United and England footballer, Sir Bobby Charlton, passes away: World football mourns

Legend English and Manchester United, Sir Bobby Charlton, die. World football immediately mourned.

Sir Bobby Charlton died on Saturday (21/10/2023). This sad news was announced by the family, but the cause is not yet clear.

The man born in Ashington, 11 October 1937, died at the age of 86. He is one of the best footballers that England and Manchester United have ever had.

The death of Sir Bobby Charlton left world football in mourning. A number of clubs expressed a deep sense of loss over the departure of the legend.

“Everyone at Chelsea Football Club is deeply saddened by the news of his passing Sir Bobby Charlton. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family, friends and people of Manchester United at this difficult time,” wrote Chelsea.

“It is with heavy hearts that we learn of the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton,” wrote the official England national team account.

“As an integral part of our winning campaign at the 1966 FIFA World Cup, Sir Bobby earned 106 caps and scored 49 goals for the #ThreeLions. A true legend of our game. We will never forget you, Sir Bobby,” concluded his statement.

Not only from England, other European clubs also expressed their condolences. Barcelona immediately held a moment of silence at an event.

“We at FC Barcelona would like to express our condolences to the family and friends of Sir Bobby Charlton, legend of Manchester United and world football. Rest in peace,” wrote Barcelona.

Sir Bobby Charlton’s record while playing is indeed classy. He was able to score 249 goals in 758 matches, while also winning 7 titles, including three Premier Division titles, one FA Cup and the 1967/1968 European Championship title (Champions League).

Meanwhile in England, Sir Bobby Charlton was one of the winners of the 1966 World Cup, or the last title won by the Three Lions. He has a record of 106 caps and scored 49 goals.

Sir Bobby Charlton also one part of the squad Manchester United who experienced the 1958 Munich incident. He was a survivor of that terrible tragedy, and is now the last to die.
