Mourning for Robert Lieberman: The “Mighty Ducks” director died at the age of 75 as a result of cancer.
Robert Lieberman is dead. The American director died on July 1, 2023. His manager John Bauman has now confirmed this to “Deadline.” The filmmaker is said to have suffered from cancer for a long time.
“I miss him so much already”
Nick Lieberman, the son of the deceased, who also worked as a director, commemorates on his Instagram-Profile to his father. “My dad was one of the great believers – in his family, in his dreams, in big films, in hard work,” he wrote. “He was unflappable, yet always vulnerable. He liked to cry. He loved stories and storytelling,” continued Nick Lieberman. “I miss him so much already.”
As part of his obituary, Nick Lieberman shared a series of older photos showing his father with his children. Robert Lieberman was married three times, each of his first two marriages had two children. In one photo we also see the aged director, marked by his illness.

Robert Lieberman was born on July 16, 1947 in Buffalo, New York. In the 1970s he started his career with commercials. In this sector, Lieberman developed into one of the most distinguished directors. He has shot commercials for major companies and has won the Clio industry award 29 times.
From the 1980s, Robert Lieberman also worked in film. His best-known works include ‘Feuer am Himmel’ (1993), about an allegedly real alien abduction, and ‘D3: The Mighty Ducks’, the third installment in the cult ice hockey comedy series. For television, Lieberman directed episodes of the series “The X-Files” and “Dexter”.
