Legendary Czech Football Player Pavel Dyba Dies at 79: Two-Time Champion with Sparta Prague

PRAGUE – Former football player Pavel Dyba, two-time champion of the Czechoslovak league with Sparta Prague, died at the age of 79.

The flight club announced his death on Tuesday night on its website. Dyba also played in the top competition for other Prague teams Bohemians and Dukla.

Dyba won titles with Sparta in 1965 and 1967. He played a total of 182 matches in the league as a midfielder and scored 19 goals. He also played in the Champions Cup of European countries with the Letne team and in 1968 participated in the quarter-final rematch with a goal in a 2:1 victory over Real Madrid.

Dyba also played for the national team in one match. In 1966, he played in a friendly match against Brazil in Rio de Janeiro at Maracaná, where the Czech-Slovak team lost 1:2.
