British actor Michael Caineof 90 years, has decided to retire from acting After the recent release of his latest film, ‘The Great Escaper’which he filmed with the late Glenda Jackson, as revealed to the BBC.
“I keep saying that I’m going to retire. Well, now I am,” said the performer, who holds the title of “sir” (knight), after receiving good reviews for his latest performance.
With an extensive filmography behind him, with films such as ‘Zulu’ or ‘The Italian Job’, Caine has worked on more than 100 films throughout a career that spans seven decades.
In his latest film, which opened Oct. 6, he plays World War II veteran Bernie Jordan, who escaped from a nursing home to attend D-Day celebrations in France.
“The only roles I can get now are 90-year-old men. Or maybe 85,” he admitted to BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme.
“You don’t have protagonists at 90 years old, you will have young and handsome boys and girls. So I thought: I better go with all this,” he added.
Caine also said he had turned down the final film three times before accepting the role, in which he starred with Glenda Jackson, who died last June after completing the film.
The actor’s withdrawal occurs a month before the planned release of Caine’s novel ‘Deadly Game’, which is about the adventures of a detective who does not respect bureaucracy.
“My ambition for years has been to write a ‘thriller’. It is the genre that I like to read the most and I am really excited to work on Deadly Game,” said the actor, who expressed the hope that “readers enjoy getting to know” his character. , Harry Taylor.
