SAO PAULO. Former successful Brazilian soccer player Mario Zagallo died at the age of 92. He became the first in history to win the title of world champion as both a player and a coach.
Zagallo was the last living world champion to lift the Golden Nike in 1958 after the World Cup final in Sweden.
Brazil won its first primacy then. In the fight for the title, they defeated the home Swedes 5:2, the left winger scored the fourth goal.
Four years later, Brazil defended the title and Zagallo played the entire game at the World Cup in Chile.
As a coach, he then led the “canaries” to triumph at the championship in Mexico in 1970. He also took part in the triumph at the 1994 World Cup in the USA from the position of technical director of the team.
