Legendary All Blacks opener Dan Carter retired

Carter has been an oval figure for almost 20 years now. A New Zealand international since 2003, he has worn the Fern Jersey 112 times. He holds, with 1598 points, the points record for his selection but also for all the selections combined.

Double world champion, in 2011 then in 2015, where he splashed the competition in England, Dan Carter was also named Best Player of the world three times, in 2005, 2012 and 2015.

“I’m officially retiring from the sport,” the former opening half wrote on Instagram. “A sport that I have played for 32 years and which has helped me to build the person I am today. I cannot thank all the people who have played a role in my journey, from my teammates to my opponents to my coaches but especially you, the fans. I am excited to open a new chapter in my life. For now, I am sad to be stepping away from the game but I think the timing is right. Rugby will always be part of my life, “he said.
