Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fécafoot), wrote a letter to the Minister of Sports on Wednesday to denounce the “illegal” appointment of Marc Brys as national coach by the Ministry of Sports on Tuesday. The Cameroonian Minister of Sports announced on national television on Tuesday that the 61-year-old Antwerp native will succeed Rigobert Song.

“The National Football Federation cannot recognize this appointment, which was made outside any legal or regulatory framework,” Eto’o said in the letter, which was made public. The football association also states that it was “neither directly nor indirectly” involved in the selection of candidates for the position of national coach. Fécafoot and Eto’o don’t understand this at all, it sounds, because the football association is responsible for this according to a presidential decree.
The former FC Barcelona star urges the minister to “take note of the comments”. The Cameroon Football Association reacted with surprise on Tuesday to the appointment of Brys as the new national coach of the Indomitable Lions.

Brys should become the third Belgian coach of Cameroon after Henri Depireux (1996-1997) and Hugo Broos (2016-2017). The latter led the country to victory in the African Cup of Nations in 2017.
