Two different cases with a legal protection insurance within one year can lead to the termination of the insurance contract. In the aftermath of the corona crisis, however, you should have legal protection insurance, and one that has not been terminated. It is a time of crisis, and as with any crisis, the corona crisis is more likely to get you fired and become unemployed. Legal protection insurance is particularly important now: It makes it easier to enforce your own rights, both in and out of court, and often also improves your own negotiating position in court.
Which areas of life should legal protection insurance cover?
First of all, there is labor legal protection: Here, legal protection insurance is particularly worthwhile because of the regularly good cost-benefit ratio in dismissal protection suits. I also advise renting and, if you have a car, traffic legal protection. This is where most of the damage occurs and where most of the fees are paid.
However, if you register two insured events within a year, for example a dismissal protection suit and shortly afterwards a suit for the termination of an apartment, then it is possible that the legal protection insurance is entitled to terminate – and terminate.
Important to know: legal protection insurances do not terminate with immediate effect, but regularly with a notice period at the end of the year. That is why the insurance cover usually lasts until the end of the notice period after termination.
Cases that fall during this period are regularly still covered by insurance cover – including those that are new!
Tips for the insured: Think carefully about why it is worth taking out legal protection insurance. It is often better to pay the lawyer yourself for legal advice or a road traffic fine, so as not to jeopardize insurance cover for future termination.
You can also prevent the disadvantages of a termination by taking out additional legal protection insurance. Here you should read in the insurance conditions whether this is allowed there, or inquire with an expert whether a second insurance is sensible or legal.
Also check whether you may be insured with your partner with whom you live in an apartment. Many legal protection insurances have such a “partner clause”, which one often does not know about.
Avoid being close to insurance fraud! If in doubt, disclose all information about possible secondary insurance to the insurance company.
Also important: Anyone who has been terminated by the insurance and who then claims the insurance again by the end of the notice period can face the problem that they cannot find a new legal protection insurance later because it rejects them as the policyholder because of the previous termination.
