Legacy 3.11. The Power of Art and Creativity from 3.11, Japan: Past, Present and Future
The Nippon AWAKES Institute artist collective formed the group Legacy 3.11, following the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in Tohoku on March 11, 2011. Amid the desperation of this devastating event, some individuals chose to see the situation with optimism, looking for a way to turn it towards a better future. The disaster of March 11, 2011 created a powerful “creative resilience”, which even today can serve as an experience to overcome not only the recent climate crisis, but also events such as epidemics, wars, economic disparities and so on.
The exhibition “Legacy 3.11. The Power of Art and Creativity from 3.11, Japan: Past, Present and Future” conceived by this group of Japanese artists expresses, therefore, the hope that people will listen to their voices and start working together to promote society in which differences are respected and in which there is a commitment not to destroy the environment, for the good of future generations.
