Left-wing Protest in Freiburg: Rally for Lina E. and Antifascist Freedom

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – At a rally in Freiburg, people from the left-wing scene protested against the conviction of Lina E. in Leipzig. There were no incidents, said a police spokesman. The “spontaneous rally” on Saturday was called on Twitter. The event took place under the title “Freedom for Lina! Free All Antifas!” instead of. About 50 to 60 participants attended.

The verdict against the left-wing extremist Lina E. and three co-defendants for attacks on alleged or actual neo-Nazis, in which several people were injured, some seriously, was the cause of several protests. The 28-year-old student was sentenced on Wednesday by the Dresden Higher Regional Court to five years and three months in prison for the violent crimes.

An official demonstration for Saturday in Leipzig had been banned because of the potential danger. An urgent application against the ban on the “Day X” demo at the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe was unsuccessful on Saturday. Nevertheless, the police in Leipzig had prepared for an influx.
