Left turns are prohibited on the Tallinn highway at the intersection near Zvejniekciems station

In order to improve traffic safety at the intersection of Tallinn highway (A1) and Pagasta street (V55) at Zvejniekciems station, starting from Friday, all left turns are prohibited at this intersection, LETA was informed by the Communication Department of SJSC Latvijas valsts ceļi (LVC).

From now on, only good turns can be made in all directions at this intersection, crossing the Tallinn highway at this intersection is also prohibited. In order to make left turns, two-level intersections of the Tallinn highway with the road Saulkrasti-Bīriņi (V39) or the road Straupe-Lēdurga-Vidriži-Skulte (V128) can be used in the future.

The traffic intensity on the Tallinn highway at this intersection had already reached 8,900 transport units per day last year. 30% of them were freight transport.

In order to improve traffic safety, LVC purposefully performs the elimination of left maneuvers on major roads throughout Latvia. This year, left turns have already been eliminated on the Tallinn highway at three intersections in Baltezers, leaving Senču Avenue, Liepkalnu Street and Mētru Street, as well as on the Jelgava Highway (A8) at the intersection near Medemciems, where there was a black spot or one of the most dangerous intersections on state roads. .

Traffic safety experts acknowledge that a left turn is one of the most dangerous maneuvers in traffic alongside overtaking. Especially dangerous left turns are on busy highways.
