Tomorrow the House of Representatives will meet to discuss an emergency law in which Minister Stientje van Veldhoven (Environment and Housing) arranges that temporary rents can be extended to prevent tenants from getting into trouble when contracts expire. GroenLinks, SP and PvdA want to amend that law and provide much more extensive rental protection.
Income
The parties note that many tenants are worried now that their income is lost due to the corona crisis. Minister Van Veldhoven has made agreements with the umbrella organizations of housing corporations Aedes and the investment organizations Vastgoed Belang and IVBN, among others, to spare tenants who are now in trouble, but that is of no use to tenants of slumlords, for example, according to the three left-wing parties.
All house evictions must be postponed, say MPs Paul Smeulders (GroenLinks), Sandra Beckerman (SP) and Henk Nijboer (PvdA). They also believe that no temporary contract should be canceled during the crisis, even if the owner of a property wants to demolish it. Then, according to the parties, the demolition should only be postponed.
