Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The flu season in the United States is said to have come early, causing US hospitals to have the highest level of hospitalization rates for flu in the past decade.
US Department of Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Dawn O’Connell said the rise in influenza cases was exacerbated by the presence of the respiratory virus (RSV) and Covid-19 cases. that blew up hospitals.
“There is no doubt that we will face several challenges this winter,” he said.
The rise in flu cases has led the government to administer more than 5 million doses of the flu vaccine to US adults this year. This figure is much higher than last year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has previously tracked the possible rise in influenza cases by monitoring doctor visit rates for flu-like illnesses in states like Washington DC.
According to the CDC, a sudden increase in the number of cases of a flu-like illness can provide strong clues as to where the flu will spread in the United States.
There are areas where reports differ, such as Virginia and Louisiana which report “moderate” hospital visits; Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas, Georgia and New York City which reported “high” hospital visits; and Washington, DC reported “very high” levels.
