Offenbach The extension of the social housing bond comes too late and is too little, criticizes the Left.
The announced plans of the non-profit construction company Offenbach (GBO) “come too late and are too little”, criticized the left faction in the city parliament. Neither the coalition of the CDU, the Greens and Free Voters, nor the SPD had cared much about social housing in the past five years.
Just an election topic?
“Now that we are close to the local elections, the issue is being brought up to make a name for itself,” criticized the group. But that is not enough to effectively fight the housing crisis in the city. The background to this is a decision by the city council to keep 824 GBO apartments in social connection for ten years. In addition, 38 apartments were newly included in the social commitment. The left speaks of a “drop in the bucket”.
The housing stock has grown by three thousand apartments since the turn of the millennium, while the rate of social housing has shrunk from 9.1 to 6 percent. “In 2017 [..] 186 new apartments were completed, but not a single one of them was subsidized, ”criticizes city councilor Sven Malsy. At the same time, 105 apartments have fallen out of bond. “The displacement from our city was not fought and the housing crisis even fueled,” Malsy writes. The GBO has had a lot of time over the past five years to exercise its social responsibility.
Instead, the municipal construction company renovated and implemented massive rent increases, such as in Birkenlohrstrasse. “Or shop window projects were implemented, such as the wooden hybrid house in the north end”.
If now finally the securing of the occupancy limit comes, that is correct, but come too late. The Left demands, among other things, a minimum quota of thirty percent subsidized living space for construction projects. jon
