There may be four night shops in the entertainment area in Leeuwarden. Previously this was not possible, but the mayor and aldermen want to adjust the shopping hours regulation.
These are so-called vending machines stores, where care products such as toothpaste, deodorant, soft drinks, candy, coffee, and underwear and socks are for sale.
There may also be a cloakroom or lockers for coats and bags or a public toilet. Abroad, for example in Italy, such vending machines can be found in every major city and they work well there, the council writes in its proposal.
“In a society with increasingly flexible working hours and different lifestyles, 24-hour opening hours can contribute to a better match between the availability of services and consumer needs,” the council said.
According to the ‘Leeuwarden Shopping Hours Regulation 2022’, shops in Leeuwarden may only be open from Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
