The previous trend has changed slightly, but there is nothing to worry about.
At the beginning of July, positive news arrived regarding the reduction in the price of video cards. The Chinese domestic market has practically collapsed, new units must be sold well below the manufacturer’s suggested prices, not to mention used units. In Europe and America, the situation is not that drastic, but so far we have been able to read more favorable price tags over the months. With the ever rising energy prices, mining isn’t really worth it, and Ethereum also switched to a new model in mid-September.
A TechSpot his team looked at pricing again, this time using Newegg’s website. Since March 2021, the evolution of prices is also monitored from this point of view, so the evolution of trends can be easily followed. American prices don’t necessarily match European prices, but their relationship is usually similar, so this shouldn’t be a problem either. The situation in our country is somewhat complicated by the current euro and dollar exchange rate, but fortunately we can buy video cards at increasingly cheaper prices in Hungary too.
Let’s also see how video card prices have evolved in the first half of October!
Nvidia
It can be clearly seen that there has been a slight increase in the winter period, but since then the price of virtually all Nvidia cards has been slowly decreasing. The more expensive a VGA is, the more spectacular the drop will be, just look at the RTX 3090 lineup. Retailers have cut price tags well since July, let’s take a look at the numbers from the last three months.
Advised price | Price – August | Price – September | Price – October | Current price inflation | Difference between September and October | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
GeForce RTX 3090 Ti | $ 2,000 | $ 1,350 | $ 1,030 | $ 1,080 | -46% | 5% |
GeForce RTX 3090 | $ 1,000 | $ 1,220 | $ 960 | $ 1,030 | -31% | 7% |
GeForce RTX 3080 Ti | $ 1,200 | $ 870 | $ 800 | $ 870 | -28% | 9% |
GeForce RTX 3080 12GB | n / a | $ 750 | $ 750 | $ 740 | n / a | -1% |
GeForce RTX 3080 10GB | $ 700 | $ 730 | $ 740 | $ 740 | 6% | 0% |
GeForce RTX 3070 Ti | $ 600 | $ 620 | $ 610 | $ 610 | 2% | 0% |
GeForce RTX 3070 | $ 500 | $ 520 | $ 500 | $ 540 | 8% | 8% |
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti | $ 400 | $ 450 | $ 420 | $ 430 | 8% | 2% |
GeForce RTX 3060 | $ 330 | $ 380 | $ 370 | $ 380 | 15% | 3% |
GeForce RTX 3050 | $ 250 | $ 310 | $ 275 | $ 285 | 14% | 4% |
Average | -6% | 4% |
We can read two important things from the table. One is that the reduction in prices has practically stopped on the Nvidia front after September and prices have even increased by a few percentage points. It’s a big question as to why this could have happened, there is a good chance the price tags that can be read now can be considered “normalized”, so the cards will not go below until the cheaper RTX 40 copies arrive. However, it can be clearly seen that the copies of the lower categories have not yet reached the MSRP price, while the flagship copies have already dropped below the suggested quantity.
AMD
There is no (semi) official price cut in AMD, as is the case with Nvidia cards, but the trend here is the same. Also, in many cases we can already buy some cards below the MSRP price in our country, not to mention the second-hand market. Let’s see if this is reflected in the Neweggs pricing.
Advised price | Price – August | Price – September | Price – October | Current price inflation | Difference between September and October | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Radeon 6950 XT | $ 1,100 | $ 1,000 | $ 950 | $ 870 | -21% | -8% |
Radeon 6900 XT | $ 1,000 | $ 700 | $ 700 | $ 670 | -33% | -4% |
Radeon 6800 XT | $ 650 | $ 640 | $ 560 | $ 540 | -17% | -4% |
Radeon 6800 | $ 580 | $ 600 | $ 535 | $ 510 | -12% | -5% |
Radeon 6750 XT | $ 550 | $ 470 | $ 410 | $ 450 | -18% | 10% |
Radeon 6700 XT | $ 480 | $ 395 | $ 360 | $ 390 | -19% | 8% |
Radeon 6650 XT | $ 400 | $ 340 | $ 280 | $ 270 | -33% | -4% |
Radeon 6600 XT | $ 380 | $ 300 | $ 330 | $ 290 | -24% | -12% |
Radeon 6600 | $ 330 | $ 250 | $ 230 | $ 220 | -33% | -4% |
Radeon 6500 XT | $ 200 | $ 170 | $ 170 | $ 165 | -18% | -3% |
Radeon 6400 | $ 160 | $ 135 | $ 135 | $ 135 | -16% | 0% |
Average | -22% | -3% |
The numbers also show that AMD’s pricing has actually gotten more favorable. Even in the higher category you can already read more and more drops, but the prices of the top models have not fallen as much as for the green giant. However, AMD’s price cut may be more user-friendly, since the inferior models have already dropped below the recommended price, so they may be the overall winners of the budget category. Here, too, the fall seems to stop, and in the case of some models there has also been a slight rise. In total, the prices of AMD cards have fallen by -3%, perhaps even here we have reached the limits of normalization.
Conclusion
From the graphs and tables above, it appears that by October, the steady and previously usual decline had somehow stoppeddomestic prices also change in a similar proportion, but the usual “US vs.” EU “supplement, the not very favorable euro / dollar exchange rate in Hungary also plays a role in the story. Despite this, it is currently possible to buy used RTX 3070s for around 150-160 thousand HUF (- in August it was still 190 thousand! -), and a few months ago this price range was clearly dominated by the 3060, which is weaker in both categories. . We have to deepen our pockets again, but already below 200,000 HUF we can find 3060, among others, in Lee’s Webshop. It is hoped that the market prices of both new and used are favorable in the latter half of autumn.
