Leet | Game or reality?

Soon, the gaming industry will reach the level where it will be nearly impossible to distinguish between gaming and reality.

I remember when DICE and EA took the title out of Battlefield 3 in 2011, my colleagues and I couldn’t believe our eyes. Like so many people before us in the history of games, we were completely convinced that we were finally here, it really couldn’t be better from a graphic point of view, as it all seemed almost photorealistic, meaning the illusion was perfect.

Then, as the years went by, we realized that there is always room for more, and after a few years, even though BF3 still looked great, we didn’t even think about similar ones. While we’ll probably use the same gauges more than ever in this generation, thanks mainly to Unreal Engine 5 and ray tracing technology, it’s worth remembering the early Far Cry, Crysis, Half Life 2 or Battlefield 3. just in case.

Yet now we can truly and absolutely rightly believe that there is really nothing more to be done from here, when UE5’s tech demos and personal projects often seem so that we can barely distinguish them from a real recording.

Here, for example, are two examples of this year: the Japanese one railway station It’s inside village real-time presentation animations made in UE5. Both are incredibly lifelike, and although the horse’s leg protrudes in places, the pros have also witnessed these jaw-dropping demonstrations. And now, for the first time since BF3, I get the “nothing better” feeling about an action game, also made by a single game developer, Alexandre Spindler, of course in Unreal.

Alexandre is creating a solo action game that evokes the actions of commandos with body cameras. It would be difficult to say exactly how the gameplay will work with this type of view, but it is quite certain that the graphics are something incredible. Anyone who has seen the short gameplay so far has easily believed that this is an actual recording, which is by no means a miracle, it all really feels like reality.

The colors are much duller than we are used to playing, while the lighting, reflections, shadows and even sounds are almost perfect. Sometimes the effects can be revealing, but the illusion works.

The only question is what will happen next? Because there will be one, we can be sure. Of course, we should get to this point, since a game with such graphics and all the complexity is unlikely to run on a field PC, let alone a console. On the other hand, it is quite surprising that there is already a way to create such programs, which are almost indistinguishable from reality, for which it seems that even a single competent developer, in this case Alexandre, is enough.
