When MK Dons lost a young Dele Alli to Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, they at least had £ 5 million in cash to dry their tears.

And there is a real chance that Matthew Sorinola will join the former Stadium MK star in the Premier League next season.

But unlike Alli, the highly skilled defender could go out for free with his contract that expires in July, much to the frustration of Dons boss Russell Martin.

“He was offered a contract a long time ago, one that we consider fair and fits with the structure of our club and for a young player, but he has not signed it. There hasn’t been a real discussion since its end, ”the former Norwich City and Rangers defender Martin told MK Citizen a few weeks ago.

“It’s frustrating for me.”

Martin insisted at the time that he would not leave Sorinola out of his plans, despite the ongoing uncertainty.

And the MK Dons coach has been rewarded for his continued faith with a series of outstanding performances from the former Fulham prospect.

Sorinola even produced an assists hat-trick in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Accrington Stanley, who was chasing promotion, cutting inside from the left to devastating effect.

His glorious cross to set up Matt O’Reilly’s 92nd-minute goal would not have seemed out of place at Etihad or Old Trafford, let alone Stadium MK.

According to TEAMtalk, Sorinola has fans in Leeds United, Newcastle, West Ham, West Brom, Burnley, and a host of championship clubs.
