Lee Towers says an emotional farewell to the Rotterdam marathon

Lee Towers experienced an emotional moment during the Rotterdam marathon. The 78-year-old singer sang You’ll Never Walk Alone for the last time at the start of the marathon.

“I was dreading it,” Towers told NOS. “But because of the enthusiasm of the people, who all sing along, you are on a cloud.”

Towers received a plaque for his participation in the marathon, which he inaugurated for thirty years with his big hit.

Hair on end

“I thought that marathon in 2021, just after corona, was the most impressive. My hair stood on end when I saw all those runners walking across the Erasmus Bridge for the first time. It was a precious moment.”

About 17,000 people started around 10 a.m. for the 43rd edition of the Rotterdam Marathon
