Lee Towers was born in 1946 as Leen Huizer in the Ridderkerk district of Bolnes, close to Rotterdam. After the craft school he became a machine fitter at the medium-sized Boele shipyard in Bolnes. Huizer made his debut as a singer in the early 1960s in the band Jumping Dynamites. His version of the song You’ll never walk alone was Lee Towers’ first big hit in 1976.
