Soccer player Lee Seung-woo (25, Suwon FC) recalled the memory of spending two years of wasted time due to a disciplinary action by the International Football Federation (FIFA) when he was a member of FC Barcelona, a prestigious Spanish club.

Lee Seung-woo said, “When I was young, I took a break (I couldn’t play soccer) for 2-3 years because I was caught by FIFA.” “FIFA prohibits overseas transfers of players under the age of 18. I signed a professional contract,” he said.
“At the time, someone reported my case,” he explained. “I was punished by FIFA for violating the rules, so I couldn’t play soccer from the age of 16 to 18.” Upon hearing this, Lee Dong-guk was bitter about FIFA’s decision to punish the young player harshly, saying, “That age is the most important time in a player’s life…”.
Lee Seung-woo said, “Since I was disciplined, at first Barcelona arranged a tournament and tried to let me play.”
“So I only trained, but this time I was told not to train again,” he added.
When Lee Dong-guk asked, “What happened after that?” Lee Seung-woo replied, “As soon as I turned 18, I went back to Barcelona and started playing in the weekend league.”
Lee Seung-woo said, “When I played in the match (back in Spain), I was the top scorer every year.” said.
Lee Seung-woo, who was a member of the FC Barcelona youth team, was once evaluated as the best soccer prospect in Korea. However, he did not impress in his adult stage, and he drifted between teams such as Helas Verona FC (Italy), Sint Traudon VV (Belgium) and Portimonense SC (Portugal).
In the end, Lee Seung-woo finished his European life in December 2021 and joined Suwon FC and nested in the domestic league. After that, he succeeded in reviving and made a big success in the K-League 1 last season with 14 goals and 3 assists in 35 games.
