We knew We already knew that Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae has been cast in the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte, but that’s all we knew. Now Jung-jae himself has us in an interview Entertainment Weekly reveal a whole lot more:
“I didn’t know I was going to play a Jedi Master. And that’s a huge opportunity that I’m still very grateful for. And to be in a movie that I really enjoyed watching is still surreal to me. I can’t believe I get to play a Jedi Master and use a lightsaber!”
As for working with Star Wars, he says he always thought they were cool films, but as an adult he understood them better. So he thinks this is important and will try his best to live up to it:
“At the time I thought it was just a cool film full of surprises. Now, as an older person, I realize that the themes they talk about go much deeper than what first meets the eye. And when I’m actually working on the project work I understand more of the issues and the issues they are talking about. And I can really explore the emotions and articulate the issues and the issues very well. The first day on set I was really excited but day by day when As we get deep into filming, I have this responsibility that I want to do this really, really, really well. And I’m focused on how to do it better. So it’s not just fun.”
The Acolyte is set in the High Republic era, some 100 years before the somewhat dysfunctional Skywalker family ruined a galaxy far, far away. If it becomes popular, we can probably expect the era to be explored further in the future. The official synopsis reads:
“The Acolyte is a mystery thriller that transports viewers into a galaxy teeming with shadowy mysteries and rising forces of the dark side in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to complete a series of… of crimes to investigate, but the forces they face are darker than they ever anticipated.”
A future Jedi Master.
