On the 13th, National Assembly member Lee Soo-jin (Dongjak-eul), who left the Democratic Party of Korea in protest against the exclusion from nomination, said she would reject party members’ request to help Democratic Party candidate Ryu Sam-young, who was running in her district. This was a remark made after Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party, visited the Dongjak constituency and appealed for support for candidate Ryu.
Rep. Lee posted on his Facebook page that day, “Unfortunately, some party members seem to be under group hypnosis,” and “As the approval rating for the new Democratic Party candidate in Dongjak-eul was recently revealed to be low, there are people who are asking me to come out to the field and help with the election.” He said.
Representative Lee said, “Looking back on the past, there were opinion polls that shook me as a sitting member of the National Assembly for more than a month,” and “there were opinion polls that put me in the last line or left me out altogether.” He continued, “Because of this, my approval rating, which I had been fighting well for, was shaken. I was not in the bottom 20%, and even though I had the highest approval rating, I was suddenly excluded from nomination without even hearing a single explanation from the party.” At the same time, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party’s ‘cutoff’ decision, saying, “Of course, we were not given a chance to contest the primary.”

Rep. Lee said, “I have left the party and am refraining from visiting the Dongjak constituency,” adding, “I have done my best to consider the new candidate without putting a burden on the party members.” He said, “However, some Democratic Party members are now coming out and asking for help,” and “There is no way that the disappointment over the nomination process that ignored the wishes of moderates can be recovered just by my help.”
Rep. Lee said, “The fact that they are asking me, who was excluded from the nomination process due to an unfair process, to help the party’s candidate is seen as a mere means to win,” adding, “Only a political party that conducts humane, just, and good-faith politics can win.” “Please think again that it exists,” he said.
According to MBC-Korea Research’s survey dated the 10th and 11th (targeting 500 people), People Power Party candidate Na Kyung-won (50%) is ahead of Democratic Party candidate Ryu Sam-young (37%) outside the margin of error. Representative Lee Jae-myung visited Dongjak-eul for two consecutive days until the 13th and gave his support to candidate Ryu. Representative Lee said, “Because it is an important constituency that we must win, we placed the most capable and powerful candidate among the talents we recruited in Dongjak.”
The public opinion poll was conducted using a mobile phone virtual number interview method, and the margin of sampling error was ±4.4% points at a 95% confidence level. For more information, refer to the Central Public Opinion Survey Deliberation Committee website.
