[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Lee Seong-hwa = Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, for whom an arrest warrant was requested due to suspicions of ‘Baekhyeon-dong development corruption’ and ‘Ssangbangwool remittance to North Korea’, will be interrogated as a suspect (substantial examination of warrant) before arrest at the court on the 26th.

According to the court on the 22nd, Chief Judge Yoo Chang-hoon of the Seoul Central District Court in charge of warrants will hold a substantive examination of warrants for Representative Lee, who is suspected of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (bribery), etc. at 10 a.m. on the 26th.

[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Lee Hyeong-seok = Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who completed the 6th prosecution investigation, is entering the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul on the afternoon of the 12th. On this day, Representative Lee was interrogated by the prosecution for two hours. 2023.09.12 [email protected]

The National Assembly voted on the motion to arrest Representative Lee the previous day and finally passed it with a total of 295 voters, 149 in favor, 136 against, 6 abstentions, and 4 invalid votes.

Accordingly, the Seoul Central District Court assigned the case to a judge in charge of warrants after receiving a notice of consent for Lee’s arrest from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office the day before.

Currently, the Seoul Central District Court has three chief warrant judges, Yoo Chang-hoon, Lee Min-soo, and Yoon Jae-nam, who take turns in charge of warrant cases such as arrest, detention, and search and seizure.

In principle, the judge in charge of substantive review of warrants is the chief judge in charge of warrants on the day the arrest warrant request is received. On the 18th, when the prosecution requested an arrest warrant for Representative Lee, Chief Judge Yoo Chang-hoon, who was the judge in charge, arrested Representative Lee. I have decided whether or not to do so.

Previously, on the 18th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor Eom Hee-jun) requested an arrest warrant for Representative Lee on charges of bribery under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Crimes, breach of trust under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Economic Crimes, instigation of perjury, and violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act.

There are a total of three cases for which an arrest warrant has been requested for Representative Lee: ‘Baekhyeon-dong development corruption’, Ssangbangwool’s remittance to North Korea, and ‘instruction of perjury related to the case of impersonating a prosecutor’.

According to the prosecution, CEO Lee conspired with his close associate, former head of the political affairs coordination office of the Democratic Party’s representative office, Jin-sang Jeong, to conduct the Baekhyeon-dong project from April 2014 to February 2017, violating his professional duties and independently developing the Seongnam R&D PFV, operated by private contractor Paul Jeong. He is accused of allowing the business to proceed.

Representative Lee conspired with Lee Hwa-young, former vice-governor of Gyeonggi-do for peace, and when Gyeonggi-do was unable to fulfill the US$5 million worth of smart farm project support promised to North Korea between January and April 2019 due to sanctions against North Korea, former Ssangbangwool Group Chairman Kim Seong-tae’s fraudulent activities were carried out. He is also accused of accepting a request and demanding payment of the cost, forcing North Korea to pay a total of $5 million.

In addition, from July 2019 to January 2020, he asked former Chairman Kim to promote his own visit to North Korea and requested that he pay US$3 million for the cost of the visit to North Korea, including ceremonial costs such as vehicles requested by North Korea. He is also accused of causing a total of $3 million to be paid to .

Representative Lee is also accused of contacting Mr. Kim, the executive secretary of former Seongnam Mayor Kim Byeong-ryang, in December 2018, while the trial for violating the Public Official Election Act related to his ‘impersonation of a prosecutor’ was in progress, and asking him to testify falsely as he claimed.
