Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Video Bahar bin Smith who spoke at an event on stage and attended by his congregation went viral on social media.
This time, Bahar’s lecture dragged the name of the Army Chief of Staff, General Dudung Abdurachman. Bahar, who wore a brown cap with a black jacket, questioned Dudung’s gait during the eruption of Mount Semeru in East Java some time ago.
He claimed that Dudung did not participate in helping people affected by the disaster. In fact, he claimed that FPI volunteers were actually in that location.
“Where was yesterday bring it down Habib Rizieq’s billboard? Where’s the general, which billboard was yesterday bring it down Habib Rizieq’s billboard? The one who said yesterday that FPI was just disbanding, how come you can’t see it in Semeru? Where? How come the FPI is even there,” said Bahar in a video that went viral on Twitter, seen on Sunday (19/12).
Bahar’s voice then rose when he responded to Dudung’s statement regarding Papua. Dudung once said that Papua is part of the brothers who must be protected.
“OPM is called brother. Dudung, Dudung. It’s the turn of fierce Islamic organizations. Same with OPM which are clearly terrorists, separatists are ‘our brothers’,” said Bahar.
“How many TNI and Polri soldiers were killed by the OPM? How come they are considered brothers and want to be embraced, the OPM should be exterminated, eradicated,” added Bahar in a high tone.
Separately, Bahar bin Smith’s lawyer, Ichwan Tuankotta said his client’s lecture could not be separated from criticizing the government’s policies regarding the handling of Semeru.
He said Bahar wanted to compare that FPI actually came to the disaster site first rather than Dudung. Even though the government has dissolved FPI.
“Don’t cut the meaning of his talk. The meaning of the event in Semeru, he said [Dudung] shouted disband FPI. But FPI was there first. There’s even an HRS flag installed. So why did the FPI that was disbanded go to Semeru first than General Dudung? The key is there. That’s part of criticizing government policies,” said Ichwan.
Furthermore, Ichwan did not specify where Bahar’s lecture was held. Ichwan only said that the criticism of Dudung in the lecture began when Bahar prayed for the victims of the Semeru eruption.
“So the suffering of the Semeru victims is our suffering too, those who lost their property just like us lost ours, those who lost their families just like we lost our family,” said Ichwan.
