It rained in Imola for two days. Before the first practice, the rain stopped, but it was still very wet. At the beginning of training, no one wanted to be on the track. It wasn’t until three minutes later that Bottas left, followed by the two Haas riders. Then the others left as well. All, of course, on wet tires, which had a sharp premiere in the 18-inch version.
The riders had trouble staying on the track. We saw duck trips and hours. Leclerc, who spun twice, did not escape the problems either.
In about half of the training, the riders on the green marked tires switched to transient conditions. Aston Martin drivers were the first to try it. Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, rode wet tires the longest.
The biggest incidents occurred at the end of the training. Norris ended up in a ditch at the Acque Minerali corner, and a red flag may have hung a bit on the track. The McLaren rider managed to return to the pits. After training, Bottas flew off the track and his front wing stopped just a short distance from the barrier.
Leclerc set the fastest time ahead of Sainz and Norris. The Haas riders were also high.
