Charles Leclerc has been punished for his mistake shortly after the start of the Sakhir Grand Prix. The Ferraridriver brought both Sergio Pérez and Max Verstappen in trouble and this was reason enough for the FIA stewards to impose a grid penalty on Monegask for the next race in Abu Dhabi.
Shortly after the start, Leclerc saw an opportunity to win some spots at the front of the field. He decided to brake deep at turn four, but took a big risk. He hit Pérez’s car and drove into the wall himself. Verstappen saw the accident happen and had to swerve to avoid damage himself. Although he indeed managed to avoid the cars of Leclerc and Pérez, things still went wrong for the Dutchman. Because he had to pull over, he shot off the track and came to a stop in the wall. FIA stewards have now decided to punish Leclerc for this incident.

After the race, the stewards looked back at the images and assessed that Leclerc was wrong. The Monegask was thus imposed a grid penalty of three places. He will have to take this penalty at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is scheduled for next week.
