Leclerc changes track engineer: via Xavi Marcos, here comes Bryan Bozzi

Change of direction on track for Charles Leclerc. Via Xavi Marcosthe Spanish engineer who followed the pilot of the Ferrari since 2019, from the first days of the Monegasque on the red. He had been called by the team to look after Charles, before him (in 2018) there was Carlo Santi as Kimi Raikkonen’s track engineer. His voice is heard on the radio during the races. As well as that of Riccardo Adami who follows Carlos Sainz instead (as he followed Sebastian Vettel). From Monday 13th and therefore from the beginning of the week leading up to the Imola GP, he will go away and in his place there will be Bryan Bozziwho has been working in Maranello for 12 years and who until now had been Leclerc’s performance engineer.

Leclerc and Marcos, the misunderstanding in China

An announcement that the Scuderia released on its social networks in the evening and which was not entirely expected. Although more than a few times in recent years, but also in the last race in Miami, the race management had not entirely satisfied Leclerc. And it seems that there had been some nervousness between the two, like when last year in Austin he punched the steering wheel and helmet out of frustration at hearing a call from Marcos about track limits. Although the Spaniard was referring to Max Verstappen’s time being canceled due to a violation. This year, in China, there was a misunderstanding between them when Marcos suggested Leclerc go back to his “original trajectory” in a certain part of the Shanghai track “for comparison”. Leclerc reacted with some bewilderment, not understanding what was being asked of him.

Bryan Bozzi new Leclerc engineer

In the note from Ferrari we simply read that “starting from May 13th, Xavi Marcos will bring his great experience accumulated as a track engineer with the team Formula 1 in the development of other important programs of the company”. He will therefore leave F1 altogether. “The Scuderia also announces that Bryan Bozzi, who has worked in the team for the past ten years, will take his place as track engineer from the next Imola GP”. Bozzi, who arrived in Maranello in June 2012 as a wind tunnel and research and development engineer, two years later became aero track group engineer and finally, since 2018, performance engineer for the Monegasque. Now, he will take the responsibility of driving it on the track from Imola.
