Lecce-Verona 1-0, Dorgu relaunches the Salento team in the race for salvation

After 7 negative results in a row, including the Italian Cup, Lecce returns to win (1-0) and does so on a fundamental evening, in the direct clash with Verona who, among other things, they hadn’t beaten for 5 years. It was Dorgu who scored a very heavy goal that interrupted a very long streak of 582 minutes of starvation for the Salento players. For Zanetti’s men, reduced to 9 men due to the expulsions of Tchatchoua and Belahyane, the sixth defeat in the last 7 games is the confirmation of a truly difficult moment.

«The match report»

Two goals disallowed for Dorgu, Tchatchoua sent off

After Verona’s willing start, Lecce responded by immediately hitting the post (15′) with a header from Gaspar. The Giallorossi persisted and in the 21st minute they scored through Dorgu but the goal was canceled out by Mariani due to a foul by the Dane on Tchatchoua. The hosts continued to play the game and in the 35th minute they saw another Dorgu goal disallowed, this time for offside. Verona appears to be in difficulty and the situation worsens further in the 40th minute, when Tchatchoua is sent off with a red card for a foul against the wild Dorgu. On the following free kick Krstovic shoots powerfully but misses the target.

Dorgu decides in the second half, Verona closes with 9 men

In the second half, Lecce picked up where they left off and in the 51st minute took the lead with Dorgu who finally managed to write his name in the scoreboard by taking advantage of a cross from Banda. In the 60th minute the Scala team tried to respond with a shot from Suslov which however missed the target. The Salento team travels on the wings of enthusiasm and comes close to doubling their lead in the 64th minute with a treacherous header from Gaspar. The Giallorossi try to manage the advantage but in the 77th minute they lend themselves to the visitors’ offensive: Suslov attempts the shot but Falcone is attentive and blocks it. In the 82nd minute, Verona was left with only 9 men as Belahyane, already booked, protested vehemently against Mariani and received a second yellow card. At this point Lecce controls the match and legitimizes the success, even coming close to doubling the score with Tete Morente.
