A feat by Lecce who, with 10 men for the entire second half, managed to defeat Cagliari (1-0) at the Via del Mare. A goal by Krstovic gave the Giallorossi their first 3 points in the championship and left Davide Nicola’s team (who hit the crossbar twice) on 2 points before the break. The first goal of the championship for Gotti’s men was scored by the same player who had scored the last goal of last season 118 days ago.

Krstovic (who scored against Cagliari on May 5, 2024) however needs a dress rehearsal to get the measure of the goal defended by Scuffet. The first opportunity is sensational: in the 6th minute Mina makes a bad back pass, the Montenegrin takes possession of the ball, skips past Scuffet but not Luperto who takes the place of his goalkeeper and saves an obvious goal. In the 11th minute another chance: Banda starts from the left wing and crosses into the center of the area, where the Giallorossi center forward with a left-footed volley grazes the post to the right of the goalkeeper. In the 26th minute the 1-0 arrives. Following a corner, Gaspar makes a headed assist for Krstovic who stretches out his leg in front of goal and anticipates Piccoli by deflecting the ball into the net.

In the first half, Cagliari hit the crossbar with Luvumbo in the 14th minute, had better ball possession (61%) and had an episode worthy of a slow motion that changed the script of the match: in injury time, Dorgu entered Prati in a messy manner, the referee Fabbri initially showed a yellow card but was called back by the VAR and changed the colour of the card, expelling the Danish winger.

Cagliari immediately tries to start strong at the beginning of the second half. In the 53rd minute Falcone denies the 1-1 to the Sardinians with a great response to Azzi’s header. Cagliari’s final siege is thwarted once again by Falcone who in the 85th minute stops Luvumbo’s individual action. Before injury time, the crossbar denies Viola the 1-1 as he lifts the ball too high with a sure shot in the area. The goal is cursed for Cagliari and so it is Lecce who celebrate in numerical inferiority.
