NBA and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has reassured people that his family is “together, safe and sound” four days after his eldest son suffered a heart attack while training with the college team.
James, the four-time NBA champion, said in his first social media post since his 18-year-old son Broni collapsed on the court while training with USC: “I want to thank the countless people who have sent love.” And pray for my family.”
Addressing his sympathizers and his family, he continued: “We feel for you and I am so grateful. We are all doing well. We have our family together, safe and well and we feel your love. We will have more to say when we are ready but I wanted to tell everyone what your support means to all of us!”
This is the first comment issued by the family since the one it published on Tuesday, when it confirmed that Bruni was treated by the medical staff on the field and was transferred to hospital and then from the intensive care unit, and he is in a “stable” condition.
No new details emerged Wednesday, although paparazzi spotted LeBron entering Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
And according to the “TMZ” website, which specializes in celebrity news, Bronnie James was unconscious before he was taken to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.
According to the American Heart Association, only 1 out of 10 people survive a cardiac arrest outside the hospital, which occurs when the heart stops suddenly without any warning signs of a medical condition.
Bronnie James’ cardiac arrest came just over a year after another USC basketball player, Vince Iwochokwu, suffered a heart attack and collapsed during individual practice, only to make a full recovery.
Bruni is considered a distinguished emerging talent in his sport, and many expected him to follow in the footsteps of his father, the current Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and former Miami Heat.
He averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists during his final high school year at Sierra Canyon before making his decision to play for USC’s Troggins.
