LeBron James, the leading scorer in NBA history, and the current most valuable player, Joel Embiid, head the list of stars of the United States men’s basketball team for the Paris Olympic Games, USA Basketball announced this Wednesday.
James, winner of two Olympic golds and a bronze, but absent from the last two Games, will be accompanied by his Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, three-time Olympic champion Kevin Durant, of the Phoenix Suns, and Stephen Curry, of the Golden State Warriors.
Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics), Kawhi Leonard (LA Clippers) and Jayson Tatum (Boston) have also been called up Celtics).
The 12 members of the Dream Team of Paris have been All-Stars and include four MVPs and six NBA champions.
“I am grateful to these 12 men for their commitment to representing the country,” men’s national team general manager Grant Hill said in a statement. “The United States is home to some of the best basketball players in the world and I appreciate the great interest in being part of this list.”
“We have the utmost respect for the level of competition we will face. The Olympic Games represent the pinnacle of sport and the world will be watching as we play in the toughest basketball tournament in history.”
The United States will play in Group C with Serbia, South Sudan and the winner of a qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico on August 3.
The Paris Games will be held from July 26 to August 11.
