“Lebanon Debate”
Representative Abdul Rahman Al-Bizri confirmed that “the city of Sidon is sinking for at least the third time this season, and this is due to many reasons, but the most important of which is the problem of accumulated waste, for which the municipality and the Sidon-Al-Zahrani Municipal Union failed to find a solution to this dilemma, especially after the Minister of Interior, Bassam Mawlawi, By withdrawing the contract file from the agenda of the Council of Ministers session under the pretext of high prices, despite the fact that there are many municipalities and unions that pay much higher prices than that in the process of collecting waste.”
In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Al-Bizri said: “The environmental neglect affecting the city, and the state’s disregard and failure to approach any formula to solve this problem, are making Sidon, its people and its institutions pay a heavy price, either because of the flooding and blockage of the streets, or because there is real pollution that leads to Additional health and environmental problems.
He considered that “what happened will of course have a negative impact on the city, despite the efforts made last Thursday night by the Solidarity Fund to collect the largest possible number of waste after the failure of the contracting process.”
And if he asked the “Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of the Interior to find a new approach to this problem, because Sidon is not isolated from Lebanon,” he recalled that “when a waste problem occurred in the capital, Beirut, and in many areas of Mount Lebanon and other areas, the state intervened, disregarding the cost.” Prices, etc.
He added, “But when matters come to the city of Sidon, it is as if neglect is required, and this is perhaps one of the reasons that makes us wonder about the justifications for the state’s repeated and chronic neglect of Sidon, and whether it is a price for the position of this city, which does not want to be positioned either sectarian or sectarian, and does not have a political positioning.” , except for an inclusive national Arab positioning, and considers itself the capital of all Lebanese, as it is the capital of the south with all its issues and affairs.”
In conclusion, “Al-Bizri called on the officials to take immediate action, otherwise we, as representatives of the city, must work on real civil pressure in order to realize the city’s rights.”
