Lebanon’s Phalange Party Head Sami Gemayel Calls Out Hezbollah for Stalling Presidential Elections

The head of the Phalange Party, Representative Sami Gemayel, indicated this Friday evening that “the initiatives that have been proposed have nothing to distinguish them from President Berri’s initiative, which was explained yesterday by Ali Hassan Khalil, that the initiatives focus on dialogue and there are no guarantees for holding open sessions to elect the president.”

He added, in an interview with Al-Jadeed channel, “We did not see any commitment from the other team to hold successive sessions, nor did the March 8 candidate, Suleiman Franjieh, withdraw from the presidential race, and therefore we are still at point zero today, and I am surprised how some agreed to an initiative that did not address these points.” Structuralism.”

Gemayel continued, “The problem of the absence of the president today does not only affect the positions of Christians and appointments, but rather it ends the entire country and all possibilities for advancement, the chances of forming a new government, the possibility of adopting reforms, and everything that can be implemented to save the country.”

He continued, “For us, the solution is a clear position from Hezbollah to accept another candidate and agree with the rest of the Lebanese. Therefore, all initiatives that could be put forward will be a waste of time.”

Gemayel considered, “The process of imposing a president on the Lebanese by force of arms and cannons is practically a coup by Hezbollah against the constitution by disrupting the democratic process that is not in its favor for a year and a half, and this step will be met with confrontation by all available means.”
